Friday Forget-Me-Nots October 8, 2010
Interims coming home today. No Forget-Me-Not next Friday, October 15.
Dear Parents/Guardians & Friends:
October 13 is Testing Day For Grades 9-11; No School for Seniors; Noon Dismissal
On Wednesday, October 13 the freshmen will be taking the PLAN test and the sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT. School will be dismissed for these three grades at noon on Wednesday. Seniors do not have school that day and are encouraged to use the time for college visits or to work on college applications.
Survey Results Attached
My thanks to all those who took the time to fill out our online survey about Fisher Catholic. The results are available by clicking here and a link to all of the data can be found on the main page of our website. There was an overall satisfaction rating of 85%; 88% responded that they would be likely to recommend Fisher Catholic to others and 90% felt that there was value for price paid. I plan to address specific areas addressed in the survey in the months to come. These survey results will also be crucial as our Advisory Board and Vision team committees work to improve the marketing of our school and to plan the future facilities improvements needed to keep our school competitive.

Principal Observations
When your children got home from school on Wednesday I would guess that many of them spoke to you about the guest speaker that was at our school, Justin Fatica. Because it was such a powerful event for so many of our students and because there was no advance notice of his coming, I wanted to make sure and get you up to speed on him, his message and how he came to talk to our school.
Justin Fatica is a national speaker who spends a good deal of his time on the road talking to many groups, including high schools, with a very positive and Catholic message about how each and every one of us are “amazing” and a child of God. For me to attempt to go into much more detail than that would be like me trying to summarize Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. You really had to be there.
It is accurate to say that our student body was very moved by both the message and the powerful delivery style of the speaker. The message was no different than what our kids hear, hopefully on a daily basis from you, from their teachers, and at church on Sundays, but Mr. Fatica brings a style and conviction to that message which seems to really capture the attention of young people.
This summer I was approached about having Justin come and speak to our student body as he was already coming into the area to speak at Bishop Hartley. While I had heard good things about him, the cost was not in our budget and so I demurred. On Tuesday, a student told me that Justin was staying at his Aunt and Uncle’s house while he was in the area and that on Wednesday he was free and willing to speak to Fisher Catholic for nothing. Thus, the arrangements were quickly organized and, thanks to Mr. Terry Boyden who brought Justin to school, the assembly took place.
Being an old guy who has seen a lot and experienced a lot I will not say with the assurance and rapidity of some our students that the assembly was a “life changing” event for our students. But I do believe in the power of the Spirit and I do believe in the St. Paul moments of conversion. But even St. Paul, after being knocked off his horse and struck blind, had many years of struggles and challenges ahead of him as he tried to convert the Gentiles. Indeed, his letters in Scripture are filled with the frustrations he faced on a daily basis. If Justin Fatica’s message sparks an understanding of what you and this school tries to teach your children, then the day was a success. If his enthusiasm for God and the value He places on each human being helps to ensure that the Christian message of salvation takes root in our young people, then we were blessed to have him come.
And, not for the last time because I think it bears repeating, and not to bash public schools, but Justin could not say what he had to say, and our students would not have had the opportunity to listen, had they been in public school on Wednesday.
If you would like more information about Justin Fatica you can visit his website at http://justinfatica.net/ . We do have a few signed copies of his books available for sale here at the office.
