"Whoever
wishes to come after
me must deny
himself, take up his
cross, and follow
me" (Mt 16:24). All
the dogmas, all the
doctrines, all the
devotions we
practice as
Catholics (and learn
about at Fisher
Catholic) have as
their ultimate end
Christ, who is the
source and summit of
our lives.
One way in
particular that we
try to emphasize the
importance of living
for Christ is
through our Retreat
Program. Thanks to
Al Kovacic (Religion
Teacher and Campus
Minister from 1999 -
2002), our Retreat
Program has been a
real source of
community building
and an avenue for an
increased awareness
of Christ's action
in the lives of the
students. We have
and will continue to
develop the days of
reflection into
meaningful
experiences for
Freshmen and
Sophomores. We will
also continue to
bring Christ to our
Juniors through our
overnight retreats
at Saints Peter and
Paul Retreat Center.
The Senior retreat
is called Kairos and
is not required, but
is becoming very
popular with the
student body. It is
truly a call and an
awakening to God's
action in the lives
of the teens that
participate in it.
G. K. Chesterton
said, "The Christian
ideal has not been
tried and found
wanting; it has been
found difficult and
left untried." The
future of the Church
is in the hands of
the youth and the
desire of the
Theology Department
here at Fisher
Catholic is to
acknowledge that it
is difficult to live
a Christian life
while challenging
the youth to "try"
it.
"We ourselves feel
that what we are
doing is just a drop
in the ocean. But
the ocean would be
less because of that
missing drop."
- Mother Theresa
